SHOCK, DENIAL, ANGER, ACCEPTANCEThe Four Phases of Grief
It is normal to feel:-
SHOCK:
No matter what the circumstances this is usually the first reaction.
Can it be? Is it true?
DENIAL:
Of course you realise they are no longer alive.
It’s that you can’t believe, take in, or what it really means to have lost them.
ANGER:
One of the hardest phases.
Blaming others or fighting with people is misdirected anger.
ACCEPTANCE:
It can take years to get to this stage.
Its not that you forget, but learn to accept and enjoy life once more.
Putting your foot in it.
Don’t say that:-
There better off now! Surely that’s up to your beliefs.
They’ve had a good innings! A matter of choice I think.
It’s a blessing! Who for?
Try saying instead:-
I’m sorry. Simple and honest.
I’ve been thinking of you. Nice to know people care.
Feel like a cuppa and a chat? Its up to them if they feel the time is right.
Can I do that for you? Helpful and someone to talk to if needed.
Don’t forget them because you feel uneasy.
Sorry isn’t always the hardest word.
Phone them, just say hello and is there anything I can do.
You don’t have to be strong, join in a cuddling and crying session.
